The sterile white of the hospital room usually made Liam’s skin crawl. But today, the muted sunlight and the hushed atmosphere felt... okay. He’d had a panic attack earlier, the kind that left him feeling like he was drowning. He hadn't felt like that in a while.

He was waiting for Dr. Reynolds. Liam sighed contentedly, enjoying the warmth seeping into his bones. His legs were crossed, his hands clasped loosely in his lap.

The door opened, and a familiar, older face appeared. It was Jessica, a girl from his high school. Jessica who used to trip him in the hallways. Jessica, the queen of the mean girls.

"Liam," she greeted him with a polite smile. "Ready to begin?" Liam felt his shoulders drop. He nodded. He couldn’t explain it, but he felt a sense of relief wash over him.
